Pastors Jony, Maria, JonJon, Elana

Meet The East Bay Pastors

City Life Church East Bay is lead by campus pastors Jony and Maria Volk under the leadership of our central lead pastors Jonathan and Elana Wilkins.

Pastors Jony and Maria Volk, natives of the Bay Area, are deeply devoted to their faith, community, and the individual growth of those around them. Their pastoral mission is marked by a dedication to see people become fully alive in Jesus, fostering an environment of support and empowerment. In addition to their pastoral duties, Jony and Maria have both been entrepreneurs for more than 16 years, bringing a unique blend of practical wisdom to their ministry. They place a strong emphasis on family, nurturing children to grow in faith and moral understanding. Through their multifaceted roles, the Volks have combined their love for Jesus Christ and their entrepreneurial spirit.

Pastors Jonathan and Elana have served as pastors in the Bay Area for more than 2 decades. Pastor Jonathan is an anointed prophetic voice to this generation. He & Elana are committed to building the local church and have had the privilege of ministering throughout the U.S. and in many countries around the world. They have 4 beautiful children: Erika, Julianna, Jaden & Ethan.

What To Expect

The East Bay Campus services will be roughly 1 hour 15 minutes. Typically services begin with 20-30 minutes of worship, followed by a message from a pastor. All weekend services include kids classes. These are fun, safe, age-appropriate ways for kids to learn about Jesus and the Bible.

Preaching
We preach Jesus. This means we teach from the Bible and believe God will speak to you and encourage you. The sermon typically lasts 35-40 minutes.

Worship:
You may be surprised to hear music that is louder and better than you expcted for “church music”. We have an amazing community of musicians and singers who give their best ever weekend to worship God.

FAQ

What's a service like?

Our service start with worship music, end with preaching and follow-up prayer. The service is approximately 1 hour 15 minutes long and begins at 11AM. We are very casual and non-traditional, yet intentional in our pursuit of God. You can expect to be greeted by friendly people and included in our services. Immediately after the service, our pastors and leaders hang out at the City Life Cafe, and they’d love to meet you or answer any questions you might have.

Where do my kids go?

Look for the City Life Kids check-in area or for a dream team member wearing a lanyard to assist you. All of our Kids Classes are open for check-in 30 minutes prior to service and kids are picked up immediately after service. To find out more click here.

What should I wear?

We want you to feel comfortable. After all, we are thrilled that you’re joining us and want you to be more focused on the service than what you’re wearing. In the summer time, it’s not uncommon to see people wearing sandals, shorts, and a shirt. Others prefer to still put on their “Sunday Best,” and that’s fine too. We think you’ll fit in no matter how you dress.

Where should I park?

The Contra Costa Christian School has two parking lots on Mallard Dr. Both are available for parking and will be marked with signage. There is also plentiful street parking all around.

What is the worship like?

City Life Church worship is loud, mostly upbeat, and always about Jesus. God has blessed us with talented musicians who love Jesus and are there to help bring us into the presence of God. Worship is way more than entertainment. It is our expression of love and gratitude to God, so we’re pretty passionate and intentional about it.

What is the preaching like?

We preach Jesus. This means we teach from the Bible, because the Bible is all about Jesus. We strive to preach sermons that are relevant and meet people where they’re at. Our goal is for people to be challenged in their faith, encouraged in their walk with God and equipped to fulfill their purpose here on earth. The sermon is usually 35-40 minutes in length. You can check out previous sermons here.

What is prayer?

This is how we communicate with God. Nobody is “forced” to pray out loud, but as a charismatic church, it’s not uncommon for people to pray passionately at different points of our services. If you have any special prayer requests, our Prayer Team is always happy to pray with you.
